
Africa World Airlines (AWA) has confirmed that Flight AW255, en route from Abuja, Nigeria, made an unscheduled stop at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on 12th March 2025, due to a medical emergency involving a passenger onboard.
Upon recognising the situation, AWA’s trained crew immediately initiated emergency protocols and coordinated with aviation authorities to prioritize a swift landing in Lagos.
Local medical teams were on standby upon arrival and provided prompt assistance to the affected passengers.
The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain our utmost priority. AWA commends the professionalism of its crew, the swift response of Lagos airport authorities, and the dedicated medical personnel who assisted in managing the situation.
Out of respect for passenger privacy, further details regarding the individual’s condition cannot be disclosed.
“However, we confirm that the passenger is receiving appropriate care, and AWA is in direct contact with their family to offer support,” a statement issued by, Godfred Essel, Communicatiosn, Africa World Airlines said.
” We sincerely apologize to all passengers for any inconvenience caused and extend our gratitude for their understanding and cooperation during this unforeseen circumstance.
“Africa World Airlines is committed to adhering to the highest safety standards and protocols. Our teams undergo rigorous training to ensure preparedness for such scenarios, and we continually review our procedures to enhance passenger safety and comfort,” the statement added.
