Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially closed the two-day National Economic Dialogue, urging all stakeholders to commit to transformative economic reforms that will build a resilient and inclusive economy.
The dialogue, held under the theme “Building a Resilient and Inclusive Economy: Resetting the Foundations for Sustainable Growth,” brought together policymakers, business leaders, and economists to discuss key strategies for Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term development.
In her closing remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the need to restore macroeconomic stability, control inflation, and strengthen the Ghanaian currency. She called for fiscal discipline and sustainable growth policies that would create economic opportunities for all citizens.
She stressed that Ghana must shift away from its over-reliance on a few key sectors by diversifying its economy and boosting export competitiveness. To achieve this, she highlighted technology adoption, productivity improvements, and prioritization of human well-being as crucial factors.
The Vice President underscored the importance of modernizing infrastructure, including transportation, energy, and communication systems, as a means to enhance business efficiency and economic expansion. She noted that investments in infrastructure would lower costs, improve connectivity, and unlock new business opportunities across the country.
Furthermore, private sector-led growth was emphasized as a fundamental pillar for economic transformation. She called for the creation of an enabling business environment, improved access to finance, and stronger private sector support to drive job creation and innovation.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted the role of good governance and anti-corruption measures in achieving sustainable economic reforms. She stressed the need to enhance transparency, strengthen institutions, and improve public sector efficiency to eliminate corruption.
She assured stakeholders that the Government of Ghana is fully committed to translating the dialogue’s resolutions into concrete policy actions. The government will work with stakeholders to ensure that reforms in fiscal policy, private sector development, infrastructure, and governance are effectively implemented.
She called on all Ghanaians, civil society organizations, and the private sector to join hands in ensuring the success of the economic reform agenda. Regular progress tracking, transparency, and accountability will be at the core of the implementation process.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a self-sustaining economy, reducing poverty, and ensuring economic decisions reflect the diverse needs of the population.
“If we make judicious use of our human and natural resources, aim to eliminate poverty, and ensure inclusivity in decision-making, we will be on a solid path toward building the Ghana we all desire,” she stated.
