The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has said that he readily declared his assets upon assumption of office.

According to him, he felt confident doing so because he has already acquired all the properties needed in life before his appointment.

Prof. Gyampo disclosed that he made it a priority to declare his assets immediately after his appointment.

“The very day I got my appointment, before going to the office, I called Martin Kpebu. I said, ‘Martin Kpebu, please get the form for me.’ He was busy, so when I got to the office, I ordered for the form. The following day, I filled everything,” he revealed.

Speaking candidly on the KeyPoints with Alfred Ocansey, Prof. Gyampo emphasized that he welcomes public scrutiny and has nothing to hide.

“I know I live my life in the public, and so I know that everybody is watching me, and I want them to also watch me. And to those who are watching me with evil eyes, I tell them that I am smarter than them. We are watching. See if I don’t know that you are watching. I am smarter than you and the people you serve,” he asserted on February 22.

He reiterated that his motivation for asset declaration was not out of necessity but rather to set an example of transparency.

“By the grace of God, as a modest teacher, I had everything I knew I had to get in life before I was appointed. Declaring my assets was a way of showing people that I have already lived my life. I wanted them to see,” he stated.

Prof. Gyampo also downplayed concerns about material wealth, stressing that his focus is on service rather than accumulation.

“The car I drove to the office on my first day was far, far better than the one they offered me. Some people were even surprised. For some of us, by the grace of God, I do not intend to acquire more than I need. What I intend to do is to serve Ghana and help the poor and needy,” he emphasized.

Prof Gyampo added “I built a huge mansion in my hometown. I go there and sleep in my bedroom, but I don’t even have the opportunity to inspect the other rooms, whether they are leaking or not. So, what at all do you want?”

Prof. Gyampo concluded by calling for the publication of his asset declaration to affirm his transparency.

“Actually, I want my assets to be published to tell people that before I went there, I had already lived my life,” he stated.

His comments come amid discussions on accountability and transparency in public office, with calls for stricter enforcement of asset declaration laws.
