Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has demanded a public retraction of claims that he moves with a military convoy of 50 officers, calling the accusations misleading and politically motivated.
In an interview on the KeyPoints on February 22, Afenyo-Markin stressed that he has never had such security detail and accused his critics of making unfounded claims to stir public anger.
“The man said some leaders had 50 military men in a convoy following them. Then my respected colleague Martin Kpebu mentioned my name. I am saying emphatically that I have never moved in a military convoy of 50. I do not move with a military convoy, period,” Afenyo-Markin declared.
*”I have never moved with a military convoy of 50 men. If I had, let them bring the evidence,”* he challenged.
The Minority Leader also pointed out that parliamentary leaders are assigned certain privileges based on necessity, not as personal luxuries.
He explained that Police outriders riders have been assigned to Majority and Minority Leaders for over a decade to enable them to perform their duties efficiently.
He further accused some political actors of using media platforms to spread falsehoods and urged for more responsible discussions.
“If you have a problem with me, address it directly, but don’t throw out unverified claims just to score political points,” he added.
