Businessman and economic policy analyst Senyo Hosi has proposed measures to regulate government spending on travel by public officials.
He suggested that government officials should be limited to economy class for short-distance flights.
“You can’t be flying from here to Nigeria, which is just 45 minutes, in business class. Why should a minister pay $1,000 for a one-hour flight when the same trip costs $300?” he questioned.
The analyst further suggested consolidating travel rewards for public officials: “Today, when a public official travels, the miles are theirs. It should be the state’s miles so that we reduce travel costs.”

The proposal comes amid ongoing discussions on government austerity measures.
He praised President John Mahama’s leadership, citing a significant shift in governance style compared to previous administrations.
“There’s a certain humility in the submissions of the President… this is a man who clearly shows he’s learned not just from his own mistakes, but also from the mistakes of others,” the analyst noted.
Hosi compared Mahama’s governance style to past leaders, noting that “Rawlings was bullish, Kufour had a different style, Atta Mills was a father-for-all, but Mahama in JM1 didn’t have this approach.”
He urged Mahama to remain consistent, stating: “We are just two months in. Don’t forget to continue doing the good things and not just say the good things.”
