News of Mawuli Semevo’s death fast circulated in the evening of Thursday, February 20. He passed on while he was receiving treatment at the hospital after he sustained life-threatening injuries from a fire outbreak in his home.

Ken Fiati who once worked on a drama with Mawuli, described the late actor as one who was willing to see others excel in their craft.
He recounted moments where he sought advise and guidance from the ace actor who he said always wore an infectious smile and eschew humility towards colleagues.
“I had the opportunity to train at the University of Ghana and that was when I had my very first working encounter with him. If it were a romantic relationship, I would have said love at first sight because he saw something I had not discovered about myself and I was immediately touched by his humility.
“He has love for everyone and did that with humility. This is a theatre person through and through, a performer and lover of the arts through and through. We might need the whole day if I want to list or enumerate my memories of him,” Ken said in an interview with TV3, February 21.
He said Mawuli’s death is a “great loss to the creatives.”
Actor and director, Fiifi Coleman who recently launched an initiative, Private Actors Welfare Scheme for actors together with Semevo expressed shock at the actor’s passing.
Reflecting on his fond memories of the actor, Fiifi Coleman shared that Mawuli was a witty, humble and a father for all figure.
“He’s funny, he’s witty, punchline with jokes the things that Mawuli would say with all the implied meanings, you would marvel.
“The beauty of it is that Mawuli is older than all of us but when you meet Mawuli, he would come down to you and make you comfortable,” he told AJ Sarpong on TV3’s The Trends.
He recalled that the last message he received from Mawuli was an appreciation message for the launch of the Private Actors Welfare Scheme.
“Yesterday, when everything happened, I went straight to our WhatsApp and the last thing he said to me was he thanked me and said Ayekoo for the party.
“He was there at the event with Ben Abdallah,” Fiifi recounted.
Ivan Quashigah also directed Mawuli Semevo in the famous YOLO series. He described Mawuli as a “passionate and confident” professional who he always advised the young ones to emulate.
“For me this has been a very shocking and painful event because we currently have a project, YOLO that I’m even working on that he has been playing the role of Mr. Gbetemenyo and he’s done very well. Everything that he does resonates the art,” Ivan noted.
Mawuli Semevo has played roles in movies such as ‘ Harvest at 17’, ‘YOLO’, ‘A Stab in the Dark’, ‘Escape of Love’, ‘Like Cotten Twines’ and ‘The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.’
