Mussa Dankwah Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics Mussa Dankwah, has said that it will serve the interest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if their 2024 flagbearer Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia does not run for elections again in the 2028 general elections.
He argues that the baggage around Dr Bawumia which led to the party’s unprecedented defeat in the 2024 elections is systemic, a situation that requires him to step aside for proper rebuilding.
Per the results as announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, December 9, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama polled 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, defeating his primary rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes representing 41.61%.
Speaking on Metro TV’s God Evening Ghana programme last Tuesday, Mussa Dankwah said “It will be in the best interest of the NPP if Bawumia says I won’t run again on his own, not to be pushed. . if he does that NPP can begin to rebuild the party earlier without him. Because the problems he brings are systemic.”
Following the defeat, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced the formation of a committee in January 2025 to review the party’s performance in the election.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters, National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim the result was not what they expected.
“There is no doubt that the outcome of the election was not what we hoped for. We may not have won the battle, but we haven’t lost the war on the quest for a better Ghana, shaped by the ideals and philosophies of the New Patriotic Party.
“The party will, in January 2025, set up an effective and objective election review committee to take a post-mortem into the outcome of the election.
