Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has issued a warning that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will face justice, even in death, if he refuses to return to Ghana to answer corruption allegations.
Gbande stressed that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure Ofori-Atta’s return and to recover any misappropriated public funds.
In an interview with Joy News on Monday, February 17, he stated:
“If Ken Ofori-Atta should refuse to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him down to this country. If for any reason he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed, and every stolen money belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved. It is not just an agenda of government but a mandate.”
Reaffirming his commitment to integrity, Gbande emphasized his stance against corruption:
“I fear to steal what is for the public. I will never steal what is for the public. If for any reason I come into contact with a decision to harm the people of this country, I would rather be poor so that Ghanaians will respect me for it.”
He further stressed that he values public trust over personal wealth and would never compromise his principles for financial gain.
Gbande’s remarks follow the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) official declaration of Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations.
On February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng named Ofori-Atta as a wanted individual and called for his immediate return to face questioning. The investigations involve allegations related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other undisclosed cases.
During a press briefing, Agyebeng warned that legal measures would be enforced should Ofori-Atta fail to comply.
