The Ashanti Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament has urged the Electoral Commission to change the venue for the rerun of the Council of State election in the region.
This follows violent disruptions during the initial poll on February 11.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Asante Mampong MP, Kweku Apratwum Sarpong, insisted that the Central Police Station should be used for the rerun to ensure security and transparency.
“We cannot afford a repeat of the chaos we witnessed in the first election. The only way to guarantee order and fairness is to hold the rerun at a neutral and secured location, like the Central Police Station,” he suggested.
The caucus also accused some assemblies of attempting to alter the electoral roll ahead of the rerun and has vowed to resist any such move.

“We are aware of attempts to manipulate the voter list, and we will fiercely resist any attempt to subvert the process,” Apratwum Sarpong added.
The first election was marred by chaos, leading to its annulment and the scheduling of a fresh poll. With tensions rising, the caucus insists that measures must be taken to prevent a repeat of the violence.
Authorities are yet to respond to the concerns raised by the MPs.
