The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns over the delayed nomination of the remaining four deputy ministers, warning that the prolonged wait is causing anxiety within the Majority Caucus.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused the government of dragging its feet, stressing that further delays could disrupt the vetting process.
“We don’t want a situation where we start the vetting and, at the tail end, something unexpected comes up. The Leader of Government Business must encourage the Presidency to, as a matter of urgency, nominate these deputy ministers,” he said.
He added that some prominent MPs are still awaiting appointments, fueling uncertainty among Majority members.
Responding to the concerns, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga explained that deputy ministerial appointments require consultation with substantive ministers, making the process more time-consuming.
“That nomination cannot come at the same speed as that of the substantive ministers. The President is consulting his ministers, and after the consultation, he will name the remaining deputy ministers,” Ayariga assured.
Despite the assurance, concerns remain over how soon the nominations will be completed, as Parliament prepares for the vetting process.
