A Public Interest Advocate, Rodaline Imoru Ayarna, has said the Office of the Special Prosecutor must deploy all means necessary to bring Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana for questioning about the cases being investigated.
Her concerns follow the declaration of the former Finance Minster, Ken Ofori-Atta by the OSP as a fugitive and placed on the OSP’s wanted list after failing to honour numerous invitations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, February 13, 2025, Rodaline Ayarna claimed that the former Finance Minister “has benefitted from the country’s woes through his company. Databank”, hence must be made to face justice.
“And so whatever it takes for us to bring him back [we have to]. If we cannot, we might have to do it unconventional way and that is crating him and bringing him back, if possible,” she stated.
“We are being told by his lawyers that he has gone for medical treatment. He’s out of the jurisdiction indefinitely, what does that mean? In very cool terms, he has absconded so if the OSP declares him a fugitive, I think its in the right direction.
“We’ve read and heard because we are not part of government that almost all loans that were contracted in this country, his company, Databank had a share in it. He benefited from our woes so to speak.
“From what we are reading now, there were so many others…Ken Ofori-Atta was in the midst of all these and therefore we need for him to speak up and tell us whether what we are hearing is what it is,” she added.
She cited the devastating impact of the haircuts on pensioner’s investment and the other contracts and deals for which the Minister is being investigated for.
“As a Ghanaian, I think that we owe it to ourselves to make sure that Ken Ofori-Atta is brought back to answer for all these. If for anything at all we saw the haircut, the effect it had on our populace.”
Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted by the OSP for cases being investigated including; the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao, procurement over National Cathedral, contracts awarded by the Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances and the SML-GRA deal.
The OSP further emphasized that it would take all necessary measures to compel the former minister to appear and answer questions related to the investigations.
