The recent surge in fuel prices has triggered widespread concern among drivers, with many struggling to cope with the rising costs.
From commercial transport operators to private car owners, the impact is being felt on multiple levels, putting financial strain on individuals and businesses alike.
Across highways and city streets, frustration is mounting as fuel prices continue their relentless climb. Drivers and commuters across the country are feeling the pinch, forcing many to rethink how they travel and conduct their daily activities.
Instead of absorbing the rising costs, many individuals are turning to creative solutions to stay afloat. However, for taxi and other commercial drivers, options remain limited. They have not received approval from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to increase fares, further exacerbating their financial struggles.
Chairman of Branch Three of the GPRTU, Ibrahim Abdullah, expressed concerns over the situation, stating that it has become unsustainable. He highlighted that drivers are now spending significantly more on fuel, severely cutting into their earnings.
Without an increase in fares, many are struggling to make ends meet. Chief Driver Michael confirmed that no official fare adjustments have been made, leaving drivers to bear the burden of rising fuel prices. With maintenance costs piling up and no relief in sight, many drivers are calling for an urgent review of transport fares or government intervention to ease their financial burden.
Another driver, Shepherd, has urged the government to take action by reducing fuel prices to alleviate their struggles. Without immediate intervention, the transportation sector and commuters will continue to suffer under the weight of these rising costs.
As fuel prices soar, the challenges faced by drivers and commuters highlight the need for swift policy adjustments to ensure economic stability and sustainability within the transport sector.
