In a passionate address to pastors at the North East Regional Christian Council in Gambaga, Abednego Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu Nakpanduri, has urged religious leaders to pray for good governance.
He also tasked them to take proactive steps in addressing political issues and voicing their concerns when necessary.
According to Bandim, pastors need to move beyond the confines of prayer and actively engage in the pursuit of good governance.
He emphasized, “Sometimes you just don’t need to pray for good government, you also need to take action, speak out your concerns, and talk when you need to.”
Bandim reiterated that while prayer is indeed a powerful tool in their spiritual life, it must be complemented by tangible actions aimed at fostering integrity and responsibility among leaders.
He implored the clergy to understand that their voices carry substantial weight in influencing change and addressing the pressing issues facing society. By urging them to speak out when necessary, he highlighted that their silence could hinder progress and allow injustices to persist unchallenged.
Bandim motivated them to remain steadfast in their mission to promote ethical leadership and to recognize the potential impact they could have by addressing societal and political issues head-on.
During his address, Bandim also assured the clergy that the President of the Republic of Ghana his Excellency John Dramani Mahama is committed to working collaboratively with both Islamic and Christian councils to address pressing societal issues, including the controversial LGBTQ legislation.
He expressed confidence that a thorough review of the LGBTQ matter is underway and emphasized the government’s intention to sign the legislation into law, reflecting the values of the Ghanaian populace.
This assurance aimed to reinforce the importance of moral and ethical standards in governance. As he drew parallels between politicians and pastors, Bandim asserted that both groups share a common goal of serving their communities.
He pointed out that while many may hold positions of influence, only a select few actively practice the principles they preach. This revelation served as a catalyst for the clergy to embrace their responsibility in championing moral leadership.
Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity of collaboration between politicians and pastors, stating, “Politicians need pastors, and pastors also need politicians. Together, we must truthfully collaborate to foster development.”
This collaborative spirit is essential for overcoming challenges and creating a more just and equitable society. The gathering left the pastors inspired and empowered, with a renewed commitment to not only pray for change but to also take actionable steps toward the betterment of their communities.
