An immediate past member of the Council of State, and senior Lawyer, Sam Okudzeto has disagreed with those who are calling for the head of the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Sam Okudzeto says the current head of the Police Service has done nothing wrong for him to be removed from office.

The comment follows agitations within the Police Service, with some officers accusing him of denying them of their due promotions.

A Kumasi High court this year for instance, dismissed a case brought before it by forty (40) officers who alleged that the IGP had unfairly denied them of their due promotions.

Other officials have alleged that the IGP prevents all heads of departments, in districts and regions from interacting with the media even when cases are within their jurisdiction.

These claims have fueled anger against the IGP, with some calling for his dismissal. Others have equally defended him.

In a recent exclusive interview with 3FM’s Beatrice Adu for AGENDA on TV3, immediate past member of the Council of State and senior Lawyer Sam Okudzeto equally defended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, dismissing claims that he was at fault for the current state of the Police Service where officers are allegedly cowered.

He said “I don’t even understand what they are even driving at, I have watched this country since independence and if there has been any person who is levelheaded, and strict to do the right thing, it is the current IGP, Dr. Dampare”.

“I think that people just think that when there is a change of government, there must also be a change of everything. We cannot have continuity in the country like that. It makes no sense”. Mr. Okudzeto added.

It remains to be seen what the current government would do as regards his position. Already some government officials have given indications that they are unhappy with the current IGP.

But the ball is in the court of the President.
