The University of Gold Coast, formerly known as Accra Business School, is honored to announce the appointment of Baroness Arlene Foster of Aghadrumsee, DBE, PC, to its University Council.
Baroness Foster’s extensive experience in governance, public service, and international relations will be instrumental as the University embarks on this transformative phase.
Baroness Foster has held several key positions in Northern Ireland’s government, including Minister for the Environment (2007–2008), Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment (2008–2015), and Minister for Finance and Personnel (2015–2016). Notably, she served as the First Minister of Northern Ireland from 2016 to 2017 and again from 2020 to 2021, being the first woman to hold this esteemed position.
In recognition of her significant contributions, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2022 and was elevated to the House of Lords as Baroness Foster of Aghadrumsee later that year.
Baroness Foster’s achievements also include receiving the Chancellor’s Medal from Queen’s University Belfast, an honor awarded for her outstanding contributions to public life.
The University of Gold Coast has recently been awarded a Presidential Charter, Ghana’s highest academic honor, marking its evolution from Accra Business School to its current status. This milestone reflects the institution’s commitment to providing world-class education and fostering global leaders.
