Work is steadily progressing on the La General Hospital project after a long hold up.
Residents are appealing to the government to allocate funds for a speedy completion of the project which was started by the previous government.
The reconstruction of the la general hospital has lingered since 2020 after the old facility was demolished. After more than 3 years, construction started last year with an October 2024 deadline to open OPD services. However, that did not materialize as a result of funding deficit leading to the halt of work on the project until a change in government.
3news visit to the site on Thursday witnessed a few workers on site. The staff accommodation block is almost completed while work was ongoing on the first floor of the project.
There was no official on site to grant us an interview on the status of the project so far, but residents claim work commenced on the site a week prior to the general elections but has been slow.
“He should do it for us. He should add it to the budget this year and do it for us” a resident, Madam Gifty has appealed.
Another resident, Naa also recounted the number of facilities she had to visit just for medical care, thus encouraging government to complete the project.
“We have been moving from one hospital to the other. He should please complete it for us.” She said.
They dread the thought of having their hospital project classified as an abandoned project.
“He should try and do it for us. I know he will do it,” John Gbedema said.
Theresa, a trader in the community says she knows most governments will abandon projects of previous administrations but she hopes the hospital will be completed.
“It’s not easy to complete a work started by someone but he should try and do it for us.” She explained.
Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon Rita Naa Odoley Sowah has reassured residents of governments’ commitment to ensure the project is completed to serve its purpose.
“I have already discussed it with the Minister of Health that we need to get this project completed, and His Excellency also assured the good people of La that he will see to the completion of the project., “she assured.
“As we speak, the project is ongoing at a very slow pace, and I believe I’ll go to the Minister for Health, and then we’ll obviously decide to meet with the contractors engineers to ensure that work will be done at a faster rate to ensure that we get it completed for the good people. We were supposed to meet but it didn’t happen so we will be meeting soon and I assure my people that it will be completed.” The MP said.
