Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) Prof. Ransford Gyampo has said his appointment by the President will not shield him from critiquing government when the need arises.
Following his appointment as the CEO of GSA, many have opined that Prof. Gyampo will go silent on his criticisms against government as witnessed during the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
However, in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, February 2, 2025, Prof. Gyampo assured that his appointment will not gag him from holding government accountable.
“Prof. Gyampo, I cannot keep quiet maybe that’s how I was created. I am told I talk even in my sleep and so I can’t keep quiet. If it’s right, we’ll talk about it, if it’s wrong, we’ll talk about it.
“If it becomes necessary that I come out publicly, you will see me here on KeyPoints. I have not abandoned KeyPoints, you will hear from me,” he stated.
The Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana explained that nonetheless, he would engage political actors and key individuals in government to address matters of public concern, but will only speak out if all efforts prove futile.
“If I have access to the President, I have access to my minister, I have access to the people who are able to do X, Y, Z to improve the lot of Ghanaians and there are issues, the sensible thing to do is to draw their attention and say this and this is not good so address them.
“I am assuring Ghanaians that I cannot keep quiet. If it’s right, we will speak about it, if it’s wrong, we will criticize it and of it becomes necessary that we do so in public, you will hear me doing so,” Prof. Gyampo said.
