The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse has stated categorically that her outfit shall arrest and prosecute anybody who engages in illegal mining activities within and around water bodies.
In exclusive interview with 3news’ Akua Sarpomaa on 29th January 2025 at her office, Prof Nana Klutse made it clear that mining around water bodies cannot be allowed.
“We are so much concerned about the alarming increase in mining activities within and around water bodies across the country and as an Authority we must enforce the law,” she stated.
“All mining activities must strictly comply with the Environmental laws of Ghana, including obtaining the necessary permits and implementing sustainable mining practices that minimize Environmental impacts,” Prof Klutse added.
She stressed that “I don’t know any big man or politician practicing such activities, but believe me no one is above the law in this country. If we get any big man or politician, we will make sure the laws deal with them.”
“I’m pleading with all Ghanaians and the media that if you know of any Galamsey site that are still mining please inform authorities or call out hotlines at 0506699466/0506694760,” she urged.
