One person has sustained severe gunshot wounds in Tamale following a clash between two factions over a parcel of land at the Tamale Central Market.
A heated argument ensued between the two factions over ownership of the parcel of land, escalating into a violent clash on Tuesday, January 28, 2025
The incident began in the late hours of Monday, January 27, 2025 when one group asserted ownership of the land, reportedly linked to influential New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures.
Barricades set up on the site were destroyed provoking tensions with another group claiming the land belonged to their family member.
According to an eyewitness, the group stormed the market again on Tuesday wielding G-3 and AK-47 assault rifles and shooting sporadically.
One person was hit by a stray bullet, injuring him severely in the process. The victim was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Police in the Northern Region have commenced investigations into the matter to determine the rightful ownership of the land and prevent further violence.
