Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah remains optimistic and unfazed by the competition following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw.
Sudan have been placed in a tough Group E alongside former champions Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking to JoySports about the upcoming tournament, Appiah stated that Sudan aims for success rather than just participation.
“The AFCON in Morocco in 2025 is going to be interesting. Sudan, we are in a group that [features] all the teams really. For me, if you want to participate in a competition, your aim should be going out there to win the cup,” he said.
Having previously led Ghana to the AFCON, the seasoned coach highlighted the need for a fearless approach, regardless of the teams they face.
“For me, if you’re afraid of any team, why are you taking part in the competition?” Appiah questioned.
He expressed confidence in Sudan’s potential to perform well, urging his players to approach every match with determination and belief.
“I believe that Sudan will perform very well, and I am hopeful any team that we meet, we will try our best to get the victory,” he added.
The 2025 AFCON in Morocco is set to begin in January, with Sudan determined to make an impact and challenge for continental success.
Sudan qualified at the expense of Ghana, denying the Black Stars a spot at the Morocco tournament, marking their first AFCON absence in 20 years.
