Remove political obstacles that hinder effective decision-making – Theo Acheampong

An Economist Dr Theo Acheampong has said that the young appointees must be given room to work.

This, he said, can be done through the removal of political obstacles that hinder effective decision-making.

In a Facebook reaction to the list of ministers appointed by President Mahama so far, he said “My Top 5 Ministerial Vettings So Far in No Particular Order: Dr Cassiel Ato Forson (MP) – Finance, Eric Opoku (MP) – Food and Agriculture, Emelia Arthur (MP) – Fisheries and Aquaculture, John Abdulai Jinapor (MP) – Energy and Green Transition, Dr Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region

“NB: The list is compiled based on the strength and depth of the answers provided by the nominees in demonstrating understanding of their sector/region, and providing possible solutions that align with Ghana’s needs, the party’s vision and manifesto. I would think this is by far the youngest ministerial appointment in the Fourth Republic based on the median age [I will confirm this later].

“I pray these younger crops of ministers and other appointees to deliver for the collective good of the country.  They must be given room to work by removing political obstacles that hinder effective decision-making. They cannot afford to fail the YOUTH of the country. President Mahama must not renege in reshuffling them or dismiss any minister or other appointee that gets caught in corruption scandals. A few will definitely come so the signalling intent in dealing with corruption is very important.

“As we say, the PROOF of the PUDDING is in the eating. I wish all the appointees the best. May Ghana be the winner as we build a more inclusive economy and society. Question: Which of the other ministerial nominees has impressed you and why? Let’s engage…”

President Mahama has urged newly sworn-in ministers to serve in humility, candour, and commitment.

He said this during the swearing-in ceremony of six ministerial nominees on Wednesday, January 22, following their approval by Parliament after thorough vetting and debate.

The ministers sworn in include Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister, Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General, John Jinapor as Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Haruna Iddrisu as Education Minister, Eric Opoku as Minister for Food and Agriculture, and Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister for Roads and Highways.

“I, therefore, charge you to always serve in humility and candour, always remembering that we serve at the pleasure of the Ghanaians people and that the authority we exercise emanates from them. We must exhibit tolerance for their views and work to meet their aspirations,” he stated.
