Lands and Natural Resources Minister-designate, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah has outlined three key initiatives that when given the nod will support his administration tackle galamsey.
According to the nominee, these initiatives; the blue water initiative, tree for life initiative and restore Ghana initiative will go a long way to bring back the ecological integrity of the forest reserves.
“This is what the NDC intends to do. We are bringing three great initiatives. The blue water initiative which seeks to heal and harness the environment by turning areas degraded by illegal mining into hubs of economic and ecological recovery.
“We are also going to do tree for life initiative, re-afforestation will be intensified. We are also going to encourage afforestation across the country.
“We are going to really push for another policy of restore Ghana to deal with the issue of galamsey impacted lands and water bodies through a comprehensive land and water base rehabilitation,” he noted.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on Monday, January 27, Armah-Kofi Buah assured that when given the nod, government will put a stop to issuing licenses for mining in forest reserves.
“We are going to make sure LI.2462 is no more so that we can stop any further mining in forest reserve,” he stressed.
