Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and President of the Asogli Traditional Area, has thrown his full support behind President John Dramani Mahama’s anti-corruption initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
Speaking during the President’s Thank You Tour in the Volta Region on Friday, January 24, Togbe Afede praised the program as a much-needed effort to restore accountability and recover stolen state resources.
“ORAL was great news for all of us. It’s bad enough to suffer, but it’s worse to know that you are suffering because a few people think they deserve all that the state has to offer and get themselves involved in a desperate scramble for our limited resources under property-owning democracy,” Togbe Afede said, addressing a durbar in Ho.
President Mahama’s ORAL initiative is tasked with collecting data and gathering information on suspected corruption and validating information regarding stolen public funds, lands, and properties.
The committee has reportedly received over 700 petitions from the public, signaling strong citizen engagement with the effort.
Togbe Afede lauded the President’s determination to retrieve looted state resources and warned against repeating past mistakes.
“We support all your intentions, and all your plans to retrieve everything that was lost. Funds that were stolen, lands that were stolen, buildings, etc. Your Excellency, you have our fullest support. We’re excited that you decided to make it unattractive for anybody to embark on that road. And that is why you have warned your own appointees. It’s our hope they respect that.”
The traditional leader also described President Mahama’s directive for his appointees to declare their assets as a significant step toward fostering transparency in government.
“Your directive for your appointees to declare their assets is heartwarming,” he remarked.
Additionally, Togbe Afede hailed the President’s “reset agenda,” a governance initiative aimed at combating corruption and reestablishing accountability at all levels.
“Ghanaians have welcomed your reset agenda, a brave fight against corruption. Ghanaians appreciate the fact that you are moving at the speed of light,” he noted.
