Obuasi clash: We can’t attack businesses we already have and expect to attract new ones – NPP MP

Former Deputy Defense Minister, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has stressed the need for a commission of inquiry to be set to investigate events leading to the death of 9 illegal miners in Obuasi.

The Atwima Kwawonma MP, made the statement on the floor of Parliament on January 22.

He observed the act of some youth attacking private entities across the country could threaten inflow of foreign investments.

He urged President Mahama to show commitment to halting these sporadic attacks.

“Mr Speaker, it is unfortunate that people would resort to attack businesses all in the name of we are hungry, we want food; it is so unfortunate.”

“His Excellency, the President during his inaugural speech said something which for me was very important that Ghana is ready for business. Mr Speaker, we cannot attack the businesses we already have and then expect to attract new ones to come in; it doesn’t work that way. And so, what happened in Obuasi, for me is something that we should be worried about as a country.”

He stated, protecting the country’s democratic credentials is something that has to be guarded jealously, “our government is in power and so we can do whatever we want, this is not the Ghana our forefathers left us” he stated.
