Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has praised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his impactful leadership and dedication to economic reforms during his time in office.
In a letter dated January 8, 2025, just a day after Akufo-Addo left office, Ms. Georgieva expressed gratitude for the former President’s contributions, highlighting his role in building a brighter future for Ghana.
“As you transition from your role as President of Ghana following fair and peaceful elections, I want to express my gratitude for your leadership during your time in office,” she wrote. “The policies and reforms during your administration have laid the groundwork for Ghana’s future.”
The IMF Managing Director also acknowledged Akufo-Addo’s advocacy for the Sub-Saharan Africa region during the COVID-19 pandemic, crediting his efforts for mobilizing crucial resources to address the crisis.
Reflecting on Ghana’s partnership with the IMF, Ms. Georgieva noted: “I also want to salute the excellent collaboration your government has had with the International Monetary Fund. The recent completion of the third review of the IMF-supported program and the progress made toward restoring macroeconomic stability over the past few years are a testament to a successful partnership.”
Concluding her message, she commended the former President’s dedication to meaningful reforms that have provided a positive outlook for Ghana’s future. “These achievements reflect your dedication to important reforms, offering a positive outlook for the future. Thank you for your service and leadership. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.”
