Semenyo’s stock continues to rise after stellar display against Chelsea

Antoine Semenyo’s estimated market value is pecked around £50m but after his latest display at Stamford Bridge, clubs may have to double that in the summer.

Semenyo, to a large extent, single-handedly ensured Bournemouth did not leave Stamford Bridge empty handed.

In fact, bar Reece James’ late equalizer, Bournemouth were on course to grab all three points at the Bridge.

After Cole Palmer put the hosts ahead in the first half, Bournemouth warmed themselves into the game, with Semenyo the orchestrator in chief.

The Ghanaian was shoved to the ground  by Moises Caicedo, winning a penalty which was expertly converted by Justin Kluivert.

The 25-year-old was rewarded for his persistent probing on the night after he had Josh Acheampong back peddling before he smashed in his sixth league goal of the season.

Another demonstration of Semenyo’s ambipedal nature, receiving the ball with his right and thumping home with the left.

How has Semenyo fared against the big guns this season?

Semenyo has had a good season by his standards, well captured by his performances against the Premier League’s big hitters.

He has had so much joy, especially against the Manchester-based clubs.

In Bournemouth’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in November 2024, a lovely swivel and finish saw him get on the scoresheet.

Three days to Christmas, Semenyo began his celebrations earlier as he scored in Bournemouth’s 3-0 win over Manchester United.

Tonight, days after turning 25, he has gifted himself with yet again another strike.

And most importantly, it gives the Cherries a reason to increase the valuation of the player they scooped from Bristol City.

Clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the forward but much of the noise has been coming from Anfield.

With an explosive display like tonight, it gives you a perfect understanding of why Liverpool fans have no doubt – even though it may be a step so high- that he has the ability to replace Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract in the summer.
