The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 to August 2025.
The tournament which was initially schedule for February will now be played in August.
While significant progress has been made in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training facilities, hotels, hospitals, and other key infrastructure across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, CAF’s technical and infrastructure experts have advised that additional time is needed to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards for a successful tournament.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his appreciation for the leadership and commitment shown by the Presidents of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. He said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and the significant progress made in developing the necessary infrastructure for the tournament. I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovation efforts, and I am confident that by August 2025, the stadiums, training fields, hotels, and hospitals will be up to the required CAF standards for a highly successful CHAN.”
The official draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi time.
The specific start date for the tournament in August 2025 will be announced by CAF at a later time.
