Dozens of Ghanaians have thronged the Independence square in a jubilant mood awaiting the historic occasion of the swearing-in of President-elect, John Mahama and Vice President-elect, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
Party supporters, heads of state and some dignitaries are trooping in to witness the iconic ceremony of the swearing-in of John Mahama’s second term as President.
Ghanaians raise the nation’s flag and that of the NDC high by the roadside leading to independence square welcoming dignitaries and attendees of the ceremony.
The event, which marks Mahama’s return to the presidency, is expected to be attended by 21 Heads of State, alongside three Vice Presidents, four Ministers, and 24 envoys. This exceptional gathering underscores the global recognition of Ghana’s political transition.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, the swearing-in ceremony will also feature a wide range of dignitaries from across the world.

The Ghana Police Service has announced comprehensive security arrangements for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
According to a statement from the police, several roads within Accra will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to ensure safety and smooth proceedings. Areas affected include the Ako Adjei Interchange, AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Independence Square, and surrounding roads.
