Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has shown his support for traders affected by the recent fire at Kantamanto Market by donating GH¢200,000 to assist in their recovery.
During his visit to the market on Monday, December 6, Dr. Bawumia toured the damaged areas, where he saw the devastating impact, the inferno had on traders who lost their goods and stalls.
In his address to the victims, Dr. Bawumia expressed heartfelt sympathy and assured the traders of the government’s commitment to aiding their recovery.
“We will investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire. Coming here, I have seen that work has commenced, and I am happy. With the little help we can offer, we will bring that on board to ensure that the market becomes a befitting one,” he said.
He also proposed improvements for the market’s security, including the installation of CCTV cameras.
“We will ensure that we establish an internal security system and personally ensure the installation of cameras,” he added.
Accompanied by Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Titus Glover, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his dedication to the recovery of the traders and the revitalization of the market.
