The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, 3rd January 2025, at 10:00 am.
The SONA is a significant event and a constitutional mandate under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, it will precede the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
The dissolution of the 8th Parliament will occur on Monday, 6th January 2025, paving the way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.
On the same day, at 11:00 pm, the newly elected members of Parliament will convene for the election of a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers, with all members-elect and the Speaker taking their oath at midnight.
Parliamentary authorities have issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure seamless media coverage.
According to a statement issued by Parliament, accreditation is mandatory for all media personnel, who must display their tags conspicuously throughout the event.
The statement further stated that live broadcasts and interviews will be conducted at the foyer on the ground floor of the Chamber Block, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Media houses planning to broadcast live are required to set up by the evening of Thursday, 2nd January 2025.”
“Stringent security protocols will be enforced, with all media personnel and equipment subject to screening.”
