President of the Professionals Forum of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sam Pee Yalley, has urged newly-elected NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) to vote Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the next Parliament.
According to him, Mr. Bagbin’s leadership would be needed “even more” in the ninth Parliament which will dominated by the National Democratic Congress.
“We want to be the first to dare say that our members of Parliament should not dare make any mistake in changing you [Alban Bagbin]. We are not just making a political call. We have researchers among us; we have persons who are on the ground and know what the ordinary man and woman feels…”
“We have come to the firm conclusion that you will be needed even more in this one-sided Parliament. We believe you can live above board because of our firm belief that for you it is Ghana first,” he said at an event by the Forum in Accra.
There have been suggestions of names of potential individuals who may be elected as the next Speaker of Parliament on January 6, 2025.
Names like former Deputy Chief of Staff Valerie Sawyer and former Speaker Edward Doe-Adjaho have surfaced within the NDC circles as potential successors to Bagbin.
But the NDC Professionals Forum believes any change would be immature.
Ghana’s former ambassador to India Sam Pee Yalley further stated that “sometimes, man proposes and God disposes. But I agree…that the four years is for you [Alban Bagbin] to lead Parliament.”
“We the NDC Professionals Forum will double our efforts in supporting everything that you do and give you feedback if there’s the need for that,” he assured.
