President-elect John Dramani Mahama has been urged not to focus too much attention on satisfying the interests of all the people who helped him to win the 2024 general elections.
Political analyst, Kwasi Yirenkyi projected that Mr Mahama would fail miserably the moment he decides to satisfy all the people who helped.
“Almost all those who supported John Mahama did so with one thing in mind, their interest. They will expect their interest to be satisfied or met, sometimes even if it will go against the national interest.
“I have always said that Mr Mahama will fail as president the moment he decides to satisfy all these. They will push him to do so many things but he will need a little bit of stubbornness to succeed. He will offend some of his people, others will turn against him but that should not be a problem because he knows his vision for the country,” he told 3news.com in an exclusive interview.
He added “In the area of prosecution or holding past government officials accountable, there ought to be thorough investigations done on the accusations and claims. Some of the allegations may thrive in the media space but before they appear in court, detailed investigations ought to be made to established all the facts.”
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics Mussa Dankwah, has opposed any conversation that calls on Mr Mahama to serve two consecutive terms.
He believes that having served a term already between 2013 and 2016, Mr Mahama should just do his second term after winning the 2024 elections and leave the scene.
Mussa Dankwah was reacting to publications in Ghanaian media that the idea of John Dramani Mahama considering a constitutional amendment to serve two consecutive terms is gaining traction,
The publications indicate that while he may not be perfect, Mahama has consistently demonstrated a sense of integrity and statesmanship over the years. If he chooses to amend the constitution, it will likely be driven by his vision for Ghana, and there’s little his critics can do to change that.
Ghanaians gave him a resounding victory, with an overwhelming majority in Parliament, empowering him to take bold actions for the betterment of the country, free from interference from his opponents. The most important factor is for him to meet the expectations of the people.
If he does so, Ghanaians will likely encourage him to continue his work. But knowing John Mahama, it’s unlikely he will alter the constitution purely for personal gain. He is not like some of his opponents who view the country as their personal possession to be handed down through generations.
But reacting to this in a Facebook post, Mussa Dankwa said John Mahama should not be encouraged to be Ouattara of Ivory Coast or a Kagame of Rwanda.
“This is hell NO. Don’t start this conversation. We don’t need politics of convenience. Don’t destroy a man who have proven to be true democrat with this kind of ideas.
“He must serve his last term and leave with dignity and respect. HE should not be encouraged to be Watara and Kagame,” he said.
