The Western Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress, Richard Kirk Mensah, has taken a stance against illegal mining.
He’s prepared to expose government appointees in the Western Region who are allegedly involved in illegal mining activities on water bodies and forest reserves. Mensah plans to submit his findings to the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, hoping to bring attention to the issue and prompt action from the authorities.
The devastating impact of illegal mining on Ghana’s environment and natural resources makes Mensah’s actions particularly significant.
The Western Region has been struggling with this issue, and Mensah’s efforts aim to hold accountable those responsible for the environmental degradation and loss of natural resources.
Mensah’s decision to expose government appointees involved in illegal mining highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in the sector. It also emphasizes the importance of protecting Ghana’s natural resources for future generations.
In a phone interview, Mensah revealed that “It’s astonishing that despite the government launching drones to monitor environmental illegalities in this region, illegal mining continues to escalate daily. Furthermore, Beposo in the Western Region, where the speed boat was commissioned, is witnessing worsening water body turbidity day by day.”
On the issue of accountability from leaders, Richard Kirk Mensah emphasized the importance of leaders taking responsibility for their actions and decisions.
“My brother, have you traveled from Apemanim to Elubo recently? You must have seen the illicit activities at the Ghana Rubber Estate. Have you ever wondered why the Ankobra River is always polluted? While some of the pollution might be coming from upstream, the real question is: who’s behind the illegal galamsey activities in Ellembelle, which has been taken over by foreign nationals? And let’s not forget, Gwira is facing an even worse situation. It’s time for some government appointees to answer tough questions about the illegality plaguing our region,” he said.
As the Regional Communications Officer, he’s throwing his weight behind the president-elect’s John Dramani Mahama “Reset Agenda,” a vision for a better Ghana that’s gained massive endorsement from voters. This agenda promises a Ghana with effective infrastructure, globally competitive skills, and a brighter future for all citizens. By supporting this initiative, he’s committed to helping make Ghana a better place for everyone, and that’s definitely something to get behind!
“As a proud Ghanaian, I firmly believe we must unite to support our newly elected president in resetting our beloved nation. The current state of leadership has reached a dead end, and if we don’t make a change, I fear for our future. Illegal activities have infiltrated every aspect of our region, and it’s high time we take corrective action to save our nation. Let’s join forces to build a better Ghana, one that works for everyone, not just a select few,” he said.
