Ewurabena Aubynn, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, whose election declaration is currently being contested, attended a thanksgiving service at the St. Peter’s Methodist Church on Sunday, December 15.
Accompanied by her constituency executives, branch secretaries, and party agents, Aubynn and her supporters, dressed in white and adorned with NDC party colours, jubilantly danced and proclaimed that “the Lord is at work.”
Addressing the congregation, Aubynn confidently declared herself the elected Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma North constituency. She stressed that her declaration was conducted through the proper legal channels, with the Electoral Commission’s authorized officials officially declaring her the winner of the recently concluded parliamentary elections.
“I assure all voters who entrusted me with their support that their votes will be protected,” she stated. “We will resist any attempts by the Electoral Commission to alter the will of the people. The NDC has won the Ablekuma North seat, and no one can change that. On January 7, I will be sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, and nothing will change that.”
Her remarks come in the wake of an announcement by Deputy Electoral Commissioner Bossman Asari on Thursday, indicating that several constituencies, including Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, and Dome Kwabenya, will undergo a recount. This decision has sparked controversy as Electoral Commission returning officers have already declared winners for these constituencies.
In response, the NDC leadership has challenged the Electoral Commission to seek legal redress if it wishes to dispute the results, vowing to resist any attempts to alter the declared outcomes through a recount.
