A leading member of New Patriotic Party, Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, has attributed the huge loss suffered by the party in the December 7 elections, partly, to former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The outgoing Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North said Mr Ofori-Atta grew so powerful that members of Parliament of the NPP could not approach him for any form of assistance.
Mr Appiah Kubi disclosed this on the Key Points on Tv3 Saturday, December 14.
According to him, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta grew too pompous. He was more powerful than the President and the Vice President and that was why we wanted him out.”
It would be recalled that Mr Appiah Kubi and over 90 of his colleagues in Parliament called for the sacking of Ken Ofori-Atta when economic hardship in the country heightened with ratings agencies downgrading the economy. They contended that their constituents were complaining about the high cost of living and urging them to do something about it. Somehow, President Akufo-Addo did not budge.
Mr Appiah Kubi added that other ministers even ignored phone calls from the MPs to seek development projects for their constituencies.
“I bashed some of them on our pages, some of the ministers were very arrogant,” he added.
On the same show, a Professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo described the current executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as people who were manipulated by President Akufo-Addo.
He has therefore called for the removal of all the current executives.
“Let me call on the owners of the NPP to rescue the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and the entire executive of the party.
“They have to stop the imminent disintegration of the party because we need a strong opposition to keep the government on its toes.
“The party risks disintegrating, if people do not come together to take the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and his remnants, kick all the executives of the NPP and let the party restore its own tradition,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 14.
