Ghana’s 2024 General election was a crossbreed of sports, politics and entertainment as numerous candidates with multi-faceted backgrounds vied for a place in parliament.
Notable names such as Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Fredrick Acheampong, and Pius Hadzide were all in the running for a place in Ghana’s 9th parliament.
However, things did not go as planned as they were floored.
3Sports takes a look at some high-profile sports personalities who lost out in the 2024 parliamentary election.

Pius Enam Hadzide
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide, who contested on the NPP ticket, fell short in his pursuit of capturing the Asuogyaman constituency.
NDC’s Thomas Ampem Nyarko’s 54.66% was more than enough to earn him the seat over the former Sports Minister who garnered 44.61% of the vote.
Kojo Frimpong
The former host of Tv3 Sports Station, Kojo Frimpong, was easily swept aside by the NDC’s Alhaji Seidu Haruna who polled 26,549 votes.
Mr Frimpong’s 20,942 votes were not enough as the incumbent Alhaji Seidu Haruna retained his seat in the Wenchi constituency in the Bono Region.
Elsewhere, established profiles in the sports industry, such as Haruna Iddridu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale constituency, who ran on the NDC ticket, retained his seat.
Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif also retained his seat as the MP for the Yagaba/Kubori constituency.
