The President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC), Samson Deen, has sent a congratulatory message to Ghana’s president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, after his triumph in the country’s recent presidential elections.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, was re-elected as head of state after winning the 2024 general elections with a staggering 6,328,397 votes which represents 56.55% as compared to his closest rival, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 4,657,304 votes which represents 41.61%.
In an official letter, Samson Deen formally conveyed his congratulations on behalf of the AfPC and the wider Paralympic family, while also expressing his best wishes for Mahama’s success as he prepares to commence his tenure on January 7, 2025.
“The African Paralympic Committee (APC), the Paralympic Movement, and the entire sports fraternity across Africa warmly congratulate you on your resounding victory in Ghana’s presidential election. We pray for divine guidance as you prepare to take on the responsibilities and challenges of leading Ghana,” the message stated.
The AfPC President also acknowledged Mahama’s track record in recognizing the significance and contribution of sports to national development.
“We are very much aware of your track record in recognizing the significance and contribution of sports to national development which informed your transformational policy on sports tailored to “systematic long-term investments in sports under a comprehensive National Sports Policy to guide the development of Sports Infrastructure Sporting talents and Human Resource Sports Governance and Administration Ethics Life-long participation and inclusivity Sports for economic and social development. A framework for implementing the African Union’s Sports Agenda 2063 (Africa we want) and the SDG Sports-Related Goals”.
Deen further expressed confidence in Mahama’s leadership, stating,
“Those of us in the sports sector firmly believe in your ability to steer this great West African nation toward enhanced socioeconomic development and prosperity through your visionary and inclusive policies.”
In related news, Samson Deen was recently re-elected as President of the African Paralympic Committee, securing 24 out of 41 votes at the organization’s General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco. Deen’s re-election is a testament to his leadership and vision for developing Paralympic sports in Africa.
