Unfavourable Global InfoAnalytics poll urged me on – Sekondi MP-elect

The Member of Parliament-elect for Sekondi Constituency, ‘Lawyer’ Blay Armah Nyameke, says that the Global Info Analytics prediction that the Sekondi Constituency was a safe seat for the NPP was to make him not feel complacent.

Speaking to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on the Omanbapa Morning Show on Monday, 9th December 2024, he made it known that, initially, he wasn’t bothered about the assertion. However, upon a second thought, he realised the weight of the words.

“Global Info Analytics assertion, I think the man did not want me to be complacent. After the prediction, I intensified my campaign because I wanted to prove everyone wrong,” he said.

Highlighting some of the factors that led to his victory, he said, “The factors that contributed to my win is that my opponent couldn’t fulfil his promises to the people of Sekondi. He made promises when he was coming in 2016 and 2020, but he couldn’t fulfil them. I’m not saying he didn’t work, but it wasn’t satisfactory.”

On the contrary, Armah Nyameke said that he promised within his means and is committed to fulfilling all his promises.

“Going for an election, you don’t promise what you can’t do. I’m glad I worked on honesty rather than promising things I can’t do. I decided to promise within my means. The other ones, if I’m able to do it, they will be bonus,” he emphasized.

He used the opportunity to thank the people of Sekondi for choosing him to lead them in the next four years.

“I am thankful to the people of Sekondi. They have really supported me until the battle was on,” he stated.

Blay Nyameke Armah defeated the incumbent Andrew Egyapa Mercer of the New Patriotic Party in a historical win during the 2024 general elections.

He secured 14,558 votes (56.77%), while Mercer received 11,084 votes (43.23%) out of 25,855 total votes cast.

This win marks a significant shift since 1996 when the NDC previously held this seat, breaking the NPP’s dominance.
