President elect, John Mahama has acknowledged Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat earlier before the official declaration of results of the 2024 elections.
John Mahama in his acceptance speech late night on Monday, December 9 after the EC has officially declared the results said Dr. Bawumia’s actions eased the tensions that hitherto would have arisen if he had not conceded defeat.
“I would like to thank the Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia for his statesmanship in conceding the elections long before the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission. This concession largely diffused the tension that are characteristic of elections such as this,” John Mahama noted.
The former President further disclosed that President Akufo-Addo has called to congratulate him on his monumental victory.

He said amongst many other things discussed; he spoke to the President concerning the transitional process to the next President.
“We had the opportunity to discuss matters relating to the joint transitional team. We agreed on inauguration of the joint transitional team as early as Wednesday, December 11,” the newly elected President stressed.
John Mahama expressed his commitment to ensure the smooth transition of power. He thanked Ghanaians for re-electing and trusting him with power, assuring them of working together with them to repose confidence in the governance system and restore hope in the Ghanaian youth.
