The Ghana Police Service has announced the implementation of additional measures to ensure peace, security, law, and order in the post-election period.
This move comes as the country transitions from the election phase to maintaining stability and addressing any incidents that may arise.
Limited cases of looting and vandalism
Despite the overall peaceful conduct of the elections, there have been limited cases of looting, vandalism, and destruction of properties in some locations across the country. So far, 89 suspects have been arrested in connection with various offences, with 40 of them directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and property destruction. All suspects will be put before the court to face justice.
Public caution against violence
The police have issued a stern warning to the public to desist from acts of violence, emphasizing that perpetrators will be arrested and subjected to the due process of the law. The authorities are committed to maintaining peace and order during this critical period.
Measures to ensure safety and security
To enhance security and ensure the safety of citizens and properties, the police have put in place several measures:
- Increased Patrols: The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are conducting visible patrols to deter criminal activities and reassure the public.
- Intelligence-Led Operations: Intelligence-led operations are being conducted within communities to identify and apprehend perpetrators of violence and criminal activities.
- Static Security at State Facilities: Static security has been provided at targeted state facilities to prevent any potential threats or attacks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: The police are engaging with government officials and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to maintaining security.
- Special Investigation Team: A special investigation team is reviewing all videos that have come to their attention to identify perpetrators and ensure they face the due process of the law.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has expressed gratitude to all Ghanaians for their support throughout the election process. They urge all stakeholders to remain calm and assure the public of their commitment to ensuring safety, security, and the protection of properties.
