The African Union (AU) Election Observation Team in Ghana, led by former President of Ethiopia H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde said Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior Henry Quartey has an important role to play in the success of the upcoming general elections on Saturday, December 7.
The team says proper measures should be put in place to improve on the previous elections in the country for the betterment of the people.
H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde expressed confidence in Ghana’s general elections and mentioned Ghana as a good example in Africa.
At a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey in his office in Accra, Her Excellency Sahle-Work noted Ghana’s credentials in elections and democracy.
She expressed hope that the 2024 elections will once again be successful.
Henry Quartey welcomed the delegation to Ghana and assured the Commission that adequate security such as the Election Security Task Force and logistics have been put in place to ensure peaceful elections to consolidate Ghana’s democracy.
He explained that as part of measures put in place to ensure transparent and peaceful elections, several engagements have been held with political parties, the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders which have been fruitful.
The Minister also assured that His Excellency, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo is a man of peace who believes in the rule of law, came to power peacefully and will exit peacefully.
The visit of the African Union Election Observation Team in Ghana ahead of the general elections, is in line with the Commission’s mandate to support Member States of the Union in consolidating democracy, peace and security.
