Special voting for the December 7 general elections commenced smoothly in the Mpohor Fiase Constituency today, with 103 registered voters expected to participate.
The exercise, being held at the Mpohor District Headquarters, began at 7:00 AM after a minor disagreement between Electoral Commission (EC) officials and party agents over the arrangement of the polling area was swiftly resolved.
As of 9:00 AM, 35 voters had cast their ballots, with reports describing the process as orderly and efficient.
Chief Superintendent of Police William Gyemfi, the first to cast his vote, praised the EC officials for their professionalism.
He assured the public of the police’s readiness to maintain peace and order during both the special voting and the general election.
“We have finalized our deployment plan, and our officers are well-prepared to provide maximum security. Adequate briefings have been given to ensure a peaceful and transparent election on December 7,” he stated.
District Chief Executive Ignatius Assah Mensah also visited the polling center to observe the process.
He lauded the EC for its thoroughness and transparency, noting that all promised security features on voting materials were intact.
“The process has been very peaceful and smooth so far. I am confident the same level of organization will be replicated during the general election,” he remarked.
The polling station was marked by a heavy police presence to ensure order and uphold the integrity of the process.
Party agents from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Force, and LPG, alongside observers from the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), are on-site to monitor proceedings as they highlight the peaceful nature of the exercise.
The Mpohor Fiase constituency is an important battlefield in the Western Region. The constituency traditionally is a stronghold of the NPP, which has held the seat for 20 years.
Three candidates are vying for the seat, but political observers envisage a two-horse battle between the NPP’s John Sanie, the Deputy Minister for Energy, and the 35-year-old former Assembly member for Mpohor Kofi Bentil, who is running on the ticket of NDC.
