The National Peace Council (NPC) has urged all supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remember the peace agreement that their leaders signed recently and act in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
At the signing of the 4th Presidential Elections Peace Pact in Accra last week, all 12 presidential candidates pledged to foster peace and stability before, during and after the election this Saturday.
The signatories to the Peace Pact included the candidate for the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and NDC’s John Dramani Mahama of the NDC.
In view of the fact that NPP and the NDC will be hosting their final campaign rallies within close proximity in Accra today, Thursday 5 December 2024, at Legon and Madina respectively, the Peace Council urged supporters to remember the commitment party leaders made in the interests of democracy and in the interests of a peaceful and stable Ghana.
The NPC is promoting a rallying message of peace and unity. It champions the need for political supporters to respect those with different views.
Fouzia, an Assistant Programmes Manager at the NPC, said: “I would like to say that the elections are coming. It will come, go, and leave us. We are here as a people.
“Someone’s opinion or ideology does not make another person’s opinion or ideology wrong. Let’s respect and be tolerant.”
“As the election campaign draws to a close, a number of rallies by all political parties are scheduled across the country. The NPC urges all political parties and supporters to respect law and order. The NPC equally calls on the security agencies to exercise the highest level of professionalism as they provide security to Ghanaian citizens,” a statement issued by the Council said.
