All is set for the Western Region special voting exercise, scheduled for Thursday, December 5.
Approximately 5,094 voters, comprising security personnel, Electoral Commission staff, journalists, and other stakeholders with duties on election day, will cast their ballots across 17 constituencies.
Notably, the Electoral Commission had to reschedule the Special Voting exercise for the Western Region, following the recall of ballot papers. Despite this initial setback, it seems everything is now in place for a smooth voting process.
However, Western Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joseph Nelson, has expressed concerns about the delay in delivering ballots, which may pressure political parties. The Electoral Commission’s delay in printing and delivering all ballots for the Saturday general elections adds to the concern.
“We’re scheduled to vote on Saturday, but we’re still uncertain about the availability of ballot papers for the main elections. This uncertainty is causing us some anxiety, as we don’t know if the ballots will arrive today or tomorrow. To ensure transparency, we’ve invited our executives from various constituencies to oversee the transportation and monitoring of the ballots. Given the challenging road conditions in our region, this situation is putting us under significant pressure. Nevertheless, we’re determined to manage the situation effectively.” He noted.
Despite the concerns, Nelson confirmed on Connect Evening News at 6pm that the region has received the special voting ballots, and everything is in order. “The ballots have been distributed to the respective constituencies, and voting is expected to go smoothly,” he said.
Speaking on his party’s chances of winning, he expressed optimism, saying “Based on our campaign’s progress and achievements, we’re confident that we’ll secure a significant number of seats in this region.”
The Head of Research on Elections in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Blackmore-Ernest Nkrumah Taylor, has also confirmed that the party has received ballot papers for tomorrow’s special voting exercise.
Taylor is optimistic about the NPP’s chances, promising that the party will secure more parliamentary seats in the region.
