Disregard viral video of white truck transporting voters’ register – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to disregard the viral video in which a white truck is seen transporting voters’ register to Ahafo Ano 1 and 2.

The Commission in a statement on December 4, 2024, said the purported voters’ register is not an official one.

According to the Commission, its registers are black and white and not coloured as shown in the video.

“The Public should disregard the said video. It is calculated to create suspicion and mistrust for the Commission and its work,” the EC advised.

The Commission further emphasised that the Final Register, which is provided to political parties, is printed by the parties for use by their agents.

EC clarified that the truck shown in the video does not belong to the Commission.

Deputy Chairman of the EC, Samuel Tettey, urged the Police to investigate the matter.

“We urge the Police to investigate this matter. The registration number of the pick-up truck, which is visible in the video, should be able to assist the Police in their investigations,” the statement noted.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has taken note of a video circulating on social media which shows a copy of a supposed Voters Register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 being transported in a white pick-up truck together with other registers.

The Voters Register shown in the video is not that of the EC. The Commission’s registers are black and white and not coloured as shown in the video.

It is important to note that the Commission provides the Final Register to the Political Parties. As has been the practice, the Political Parties also print the Final Register for their Agents. Additionally, it is instructive to note that the truck in the video does not belong to the Commission.

The Public should disregard the said video. It is calculated to create suspicion and mistrust for the Commission and its work.

We urge the Police to investigate this matter. The registration number of the pick-up truck, which is visible in the video, should be able to assist the Police in their investigations.
