Sudan’s assistant coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has made no secret about his desire to manage Ghana’s national side, saying “he can coach the Black Stars.”
Ignatius is the assistant coach of the Sudanese national team, where he aids former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah as his right-hand man.
Ignatius has been working as an assistant to Kwesi Appiah in Sudan since Appiah was appointed as manager of the Sudan team in September 2023.
Ignatius was in the dugout when Sudan beat Ghana 2-0 in Libya to dent the Black Stars’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying hopes and put Sudan in contention for progressing to the tournament.
Sudan finally sealed their place in the tournament after finishing second in Group F ahead of Ghana and Niger.
Speaking to 3Sports, Ignatius Osei Fosu, who previously enjoyed coaching stints with Ghana Premier League clubs Liberty Professionals, Techiman Eleven Wonders, and Medeama, admitted he has the capability of leading the Black Stars.
“I think tactically i can do the job. Because what is a tactical approach? I’m a license A coach, and i can do tactical approach. But there are other things to the job that have no tactics,” he said.
Sudan lost twice in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers as they made a return to the continental showpiece for the first time since 2021.
Additionally, Ignatius and Kwesi Appiah’s side are at the summit of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group, ahead of Senegal and Togo, and will be hoping they can book their place at the global showpiece.
