Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu says the team is heading to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco with the mindset of winning the tournament after their remarkable performance in the qualifiers.
The Sudanese side claimed four points out of six against Ghana, a result that played a significant role in their qualification and denied the Black Stars a spot in the tournament for the first time since 2004.
Osei-Fosu, a Ghanaian, joined Sudan’s technical team under the leadership of Kwesi Appiah, who he holds in high regard. Since taking charge in September 2023, Appiah has revitalised the Sudanese side, with their AFCON qualification seen as a testament to his impact.
“Kwesi Appiah goes into every game with the expectation to win, and that is exactly what we are going to do in Morocco, but we will take it game after game. Our expectations going into the AFCON 2025 is to win, and we believe that we have the quality to do that,” Osei-Fosu told 3Sports.
While Sudan faces the challenge of competing against stronger opposition, their confidence is at an all-time high. As Osei-Fosu expressed, belief and preparation will be key to their ambitions in Morocco.
