President Akufo-Addo has commissioned an Oil and Gas services terminal at the Takoradi Port while reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring both the Tema and Takoradi Ports remain competitive gateways for international trade and regional integration.
The project aims to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform within the port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) birthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations.
At the ceremony to commission the new terminal, President Akufo-Addo stated “this bold step showcases Ghana’s progress in becoming a leading hub for oil and gas services”.
Already, the Takoradi port has the Atlantic Container and Multipurpose Terminal and a new dry bulk terminal. He said these investments in port infrastructure demonstrate his government’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s economic competitiveness.
The Terminal has a Quay wall of 550 meters and a draft of 10 meters deep and comes with 200,000m serviced land area for siting of oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops and storage facilities, among others.
Recalling the commissioning of the Atlantic Container and Multipurpose Terminal, as well as the new dry bulk terminal, the President stated that “The Takoradi Oil and Gas Services Terminal is a key milestone in this effort. It will streamline offshore supply services, enhance heavy engineering and fabrication activities, and provide a comprehensive suite of services for the petroleum exploration industry. This terminal strengthens Ghana’s position as a competitive destination for oil and gas operations.”
President Akufo-Addo also reiterated his government’s commitment to establishing Ghana’s third commercial port in Keta Municipality in the Volta Region. According to him, they have made substantial progress, including feasibility studies, stakeholder engagements, and environmental impact assessments.
The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority, Michael Luguje urged industry players to take advantage of the facility.
“I’d like to invite the oil and gas sector to take advantage of this facility. We engaged with the industry during a downturn, and they told us that the terminal was long overdue. We’re happy to report that the terminal is now ready, and we invite the industry to settle here and take advantage of our one-stop shop.”
The Takoradi Port Oil and gas services terminal is funded by GPHA with China Harbor Engineering as the Contractor.
