Flying rocks destroy properties at Dabenyin after another blast on Kasoa – Winneba Highway

Residents along the Kasoa – Winneba highway have been wreak with another havoc after the construction company undertaking the road expansion project in the area blasted a rock which dispersed into their homes.

Nag Fairmount Constructions Limited, following an earlier blast which affected residents within the Buduburam enclave, leading to the death of some residents, on Monday, November 18, 2024, made another blast destroying some buildings at Dabenyin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

Some rock particles flew from the blasting spot and landed on nearby buildings, causing various degrees of damage.

The affected buildings include a fully completed 16-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment under construction.

No lives were lost in this incident like the Buduburam situation where some of the rock particles hit people and led to their death.

But owners of the affected buildings are worried because those responsible for the havoc on their properties are showing no concern since the incident occurred.

Although some owners have fixed the damages caused to their properties, they want the company to take responsibility for them.

Kwadwo Amoah, an affected resident, noted “We have leaks in the roofs of all six rooms, and the house on the other side with five rooms has damaged roofing sheets. I complained to Dominase Police Station. When we got there, they told me to inform NADMO due to the intensity of the matter.

“I called the person who was supposed to come and inspect, but he never came. I took a GHS25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to come, remove some, and replace them. They should bring someone to change the entire roofing so we all have peace.”

Albert Appiah, another affected resident said he had informed the company about the need to fix his roofing but had yet to hear from them.

Issah Rahman, who was also affected, indicated that his wife drew his attention to a stone in their bedroom, only for them to trace it to penetration from the roof.

Meanwhile, the Gomoa East Metropolitan Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says it has concluded its assessment of the disaster.

The NADMO Director, Robert Hackman, in an off-camera conversation told Accra-based Channel One TV that compensations for the affected owners will soon be catered for.

He disclosed that the company has already taken care of the medical bills of the victims of the Buduburam incident which occurred on October 14, 2024.

Hackman added that owners of properties that were destroyed are yet to receive compensation.
