After undergoing a successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery in London on Monday and expected to face a lengthy period on the sidelines, Fatawau Issahaku’s teammates took turns to console the injured winger.
Issahaku picked up his untimely injury in Ghana’s 1-1 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying draw against Angola last Friday when he contested an aerial duel in the first half and landed awkwardly.
Despite the pain, the 20-year-old soldiered on and completed the first half of the said game.
Issahaku was eventually replaced before the players came out for the second half by left-back Ebenezer Annan after hobbling for the final minutes of the first half.
The Leicester City midfielder underwent a successful surgery and is expected to be out for 8-9 months, missing the remainder of his debut Premier League season as a result of the mishap.
His club and national teammates took turns to send their best wishes to the former Sporting CP man on Instagram.
Issahaku’s unavailability will be a big blow for Leicester City, who are striving to maintain their Premier League status after gaining promotion to the top flight before the commencement of the 2024/25 season.
Leicester boss Steve Cooper would have to do without Issahaku’s attacking impetus until 2025.
